Earth Day Graduate Credit Offered
for Teacher Classroom Program Development Overview: St. Louis Children's Aquarium is teaming together with local, regional and national leaders in environmental science to provide teachers with environmental education resources to use in their classrooms. This year's St. Louis 2001 theme "Our Water, Our Rivers" allows teachers to provide special focus in their classrooms on aquatic sciences. Teachers who participate with over 14 hours in professional development activities can obtain one hour of graduate credit through University of Missouri - St. Louis. No fee for course participation. Total fee for 1 hour credit is $173.20 payable at time of course registration to UM-St. Louis. SPECIFICALLY:Teachers may select from the following events to attend and will need to create a lesson plan from their resource-based learning experiences and test its use in their classroom. Teachers must provide a journal of their learning activities, a copy of their lesson plan and a summary of the results of using the lesson in order to gain graduate credit. St. Louis as a River Town: Our Past and Future Thursday, April 19, 7:00 pm at the Missouri History Museum. Welcome by Robert Archibald. Come create a personal biosphere as a study of Wonders of Water (WOW) and see the over 10,000 living creatures found in St. Louis' only inquiry-driven, hands-on, living museum. Over 80 booths, fun, food, festivities, music and activities related to the 2001 theme, "Our Water, Our Rivers". The Water Exploration Tent will feature live animals from the St. Louis Children's Aquarium and Mo. Dept. of Conservation, and hands-on aquatic activities for kids of all ages. Symposium- St. Louis as a 21st Century River City Friday, April 27, 8:30 am-6:00 pm, at the Missouri Botanical Garden. St. Louis was founded at the confluence of two mighty rivers. As we enter the 21st century, water quality and quantity are once again critical factors in the health of our community.Speakers and panelists will discuss what we know about our water resources, and how to return the rivers to a central place in the life of our community.
